Bunscoil na Toirbhirte, Mitchelstown, Co. Cork
We are delighted to share that Phase One of our School Improvement Works has now been completed.
The work to the roof of our Halla has addressed the ongoing leaks and will help to keep the building warmer, drier and more energy efficient for our pupils and staff.
This is the first of several planned roof improvements. We look forward to sharing details of Phases Two, Three and Four in the coming weeks.

If these gates could talk……….
For generations, girls and boys have passed through the gates of Bunscoil na Toirbhirte. Thousands of children have walked through them on their very first day of school, and years later walked back out through them for the final time, a little taller and ready for the next chapter of their lives. Parents, grandparents, staff and visitors have all passed through them too, making these gates a small but important part of our school’s story.
Before the summer, they were certainly showing their age and were badly in need of some TLC. However, replacing them never felt like the right option. We wanted to preserve their character and tradition while giving them a new lease of life.
We are absolutely delighted with the restoration work carried out by Dennehy Brothers Engineering. The gates have been beautifully restored while retaining their original character and historical integrity, and we think they look fantastic once again.
A very special thank you to our Chairperson, Pat Mullins, for organising the work and helping to ensure that this lovely piece of our school’s heritage was preserved for future generations.
These gates have welcomed thousands of pupils before us, and hopefully they will continue to stand proudly at the entrance to our school, welcoming many more in the years and generations ahead.
