Curtin Calls - Judi Curtin visits 6th class
On Wednesday the 17/01/18 our class got an amazing opportunity to have author Judi Curtin come visit us here in 6th class. When we got the news we were so excited. We thought of all the things we wanted to know and ask her. We all love to write creative stories so we knew this visit would be great. She has written many stories and we are huge fans.
Finally the day came and we were ready. When she walked into the class we were greeted with a huge smile and from that moment we were enthralled. She spoke fondly of her childhood, all her adventures and discoveries. Her ability to retell a memory was so very interesting. She showed us her old party dress and her old doll. Each of which had amusing tales to follow. From listening to her speak we learnt how a simple memory can form a beautiful story.
We had our questions at the ready and when we got the chance our hands jumped up eagerly. We heard how she wished to be a writer from a very young age and she even gave us tips on how to better our writing skills. When we asked about the different translations of her books she even showed us some covers of her translated books. Her books had been translated into many different languages and it was interesting to see how the title may have changed along with the cover image. We compared the English titles with the titles that were on the many different book covers. Some of us recognised the languages and could read the titles aloud for the whole class to hear.
It was an unforgettable experience and some of us also brought in our own books and got them signed by the author. We are very honoured to have met Judi Curtin. We definitely have learned a lot and she inspired us to continue writing.
