Green Schools Committee Walkability Audit
Picture
In November 2021, four of our Green Schools Committee members took part in a walkability audit of Mitchelstown. This was organised by Cork County Council Executive Architect Emer Nagle who is involved in the early stages of a Public Realm Project for the historical part of Mitchelstown (George's St, King St., King's College & New Market Square).
The event was attended by other community groups: Mitchelstown Business Association, Age Friendly Mitchelstown and the COPE Foundation. Our Green Schools members were joined by Green Schools Officer Ellen and Cork County Council architect Ray in their audit group.
The pupils got to have their say on things that affected mobility/accessibility, like footpaths, pedestrian crossings and bicycle lanes. They also made some suggestions on community amenities that would make Mitchelstown an even better place!
We had a lovely morning out and about, and it was wonderful that children's voices were heard in shaping future projects in Mitchelstown.
