Bunscoil na Toirbhirte Annual Inter-class Table Quiz
The Presentation Sisters may have left Mitchelstown in 2002 but Bunscoil na Toirbhirte is very proud of its roots. The Presentation order, founded by Nano Nagle, whose birthplace is nearby Ballygriffin, situated one of its many convents in Mitchelstown in June 1853, when it was built by Dean Morgan O’Brien, the parish priest of that time.
To mark Presentation Day, 21st November, the two Presentation schools in Mitchelstown celebrate a special mass together in the parish church. This year the chief celebrant was Fr. David Collins, OFM. The long tradition of a night free from homework was upheld (after many reminders from the pupils) and the following week we held our inter-class table quizzes with the pupils from First to Sixth Class. (The infants will have a special treat in the near future).
First and Second Class were divided into teams of four and they congregated into the Halla for the first of the two Quizzes, held after small break. The second quiz comprising pupils from 3rd-6th (one girl from each class) was held after big lunch. The questions were compiled and the quiz was co-ordinated by Ms. Eilís Watson (Acting Deputy Principal) and the Quizmaster was Mr. Peter Lane, who has joined the staff in recent times.
Ms. Hayes (Principal) thanked all the staff who had made this occasion possible, caretaker Billy who had set up the Halla with the senior classes, the Presentation Sisters for sponsoring the prizes, but especially the pupils who were so enthusiastic ensuring that this lovely occasion was so successful.
